Making Your Dream Rug
TEXTILE CULTURES rugs can be customized to meet your specifications. We have worked with clients around the globe to create bespoke, one of a kind rugs. The steps are really easy!
What is your dream rug? Let's discuss the steps!
Design, Color, SizeMany of our clients who come to us are classic oriental rug enthusiasts and choose antique rugs such as Persian, Turkish, Caucasian rugs as a source of their inspiration. Some customers know exactly what they want, for example, we have made rugs for an artist from her abstract painting. If you are not sure what you are looking for, you can also choose a rug that inspires you from our area rug collections, then we can discuss how to make it your own. We have color swatches to help you decide on a color scheme, or we can create a customized color to dye the wool to be used.
The price is mainly based on 3 factors;
1. Make - flatweave or pile rug?
A flatweave rug is comparatively less in cost than the piled family simply due to the reduced volume of yarn used and the workmanship involved.
2. Color - natural or synthetic dye?
If you truly want to invest in the longevity and value of your new addition, natural dyes are the way to go. The colors appear naturally in nature, do not fade in the sunlight and is a friendlier option for the environment. The option to use synthetic dye is provided to those who desire a premium rug at a more accessible price point. There is no right or wrong answer here, it all depends on the client and their individual needs.
Here is an example of a rug made using synthetic dye.

This customer liked the pattern of an antique Turkish Hotamis flatweave rug shown below but wanted to have the patterns pop. I love how the colorful bookshelf, sofa and rug all complement each other!

3. Size, Shape, and Density
Just like the saying goes “Size matters.” The bigger the rug, the more it will cost. It is as simple as that. As for shape, irregular shaped rugs are priced higher than the standard four-cornered-rugs due to the complexity of the process. Density also plays an important role in determining the cost. Although the density itself does not determine the quality of the rug, the higher the density, the more durable the rug will be. We can give you a rough estimate of your dream rug at this point.
Render the plan

Now we understand what your dream rug is about, it’s time to turn it into reality. Before a single yarn is dyed, you will receive a proof of the design and concept for final approval.
Almost there...If the draft design is not exactly what you are looking for, just tell us! It is important that you are 100% satisfied.
Once the design has been approved and all the terms are agreed upon, the production of your dream rug begins. The rug shown above (size 184 cm x 201 cm / 72.5 in. x 79 in.) took approx. 5 months. Are you surprised it takes this long? Unlike mass production rugs made in factories or hand-tufted rugs that can be made at a fraction of the cost and time, our rugs are genuine hand woven & hand knotted rugs. That’s right, they are made by “human” hands. Whenever possible, we will add a second set of hands to expedite the process. Our high-quality handmade rugs last for generations. Considering the fact that you can enjoy your dream rug for many years to come, it’s not that long of a wait, is it?
