The Five W’s of Wool Flatweave Rugs

If you are in the market for new accessible and stunning rugs, you definitely need to consider our flatweave rugs. These wool rugs are intricately hand woven on a loom, lightweight and multi-season. Using one of the oldest weaving techniques in our range, you will have a multitude of choices from neutral earth tones to vibrant jewel tones. There is something for every style imaginable under the sun.

Since flatweave rugs are so versatile, they can be placed almost anywhere during any time of year. As I write this post, I cannot help but glance up at the antique “mini-rug” gracing the wall above my fireplace. When I first acquired it, she lay under my desk to anchor my creative space. Since I am constantly rearranging my rooms to stimulate creativity, I moved her to a spot where I could admire her beauty from any angle. When I think of all the ways any of the flatweaves can be used, it warms my heart. Knowing that their uses are limitless makes me imagine the spaces these beauties will live in with you.

What

My mother was into basketry using twigs and vines when I was a little girl, and I remember making a cat shaped rattan basket for my summer project.  Well, the structure of flatweave rugs uses basically the same technique. Strands of yarn run into two directions. Vertical strands (called “warp”) are stretched onto the loom, and horizontal strands (called “weft”) are woven through the warp over and under. That’s it!  Sounds pretty simple right?  Although when the intricate designs with different colors come into play, it’s a different story, but you get an idea of the basic structure. Instead of twigs, grass, vines, etc., materials such as cotton, silk, wool are used in rugs.

Where

Anywhere you want!  Instead of hanging a painting on your empty wall, hang a rug like I do and voila, a quick and fabulous makeover of your room.  Flatweave rugs can be used in the living room, sitting room, salon, your Pied a Terre, front door, porch, tiny house...the uses are limitless.   A flatweave rug is an especially practical choice for high traffic areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, hallways.

When

Our clientele live in all four corners of our wonderful rock called Earth therefore, I can honestly say that these flatweave rugs can live in any climate. Wool rugs are the perfect choice for places with high humidity climates because they absorb humidity while remaining dry. Wool fiber can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture vapor without feeling damp. Your wool rug will later release moisture once the atmosphere is drier. Whether you are in the hottest deserts, a frozen tundra, or the tropics, one can safely and lovingly fit a flatweave into your plans.

Who

Who can use these rugs? Anyone who desires the flexibility to change or update the mood/style of decor without breaking the bank or your budget. Anyone who enjoys the idea of low maintenance anything because they are light-weight and easy to carry around. Do you live by a beach?  Take it with you!  After enjoying the hot summer day at the beach, shake off the sand (vacuum as needed) and put it back on your floor.  Take it to a picnic or make it a centerpiece of your summer gatherings. Do you live in an apartment with a rooftop (ideally with a nice view)? Take it there and impress your date with a romantic night;) Do you have a furry family member at home? Flatweaves are definitely a friendlier pet safe option.  Are you a neat freak? These high quality wool flatweaves can withstand all the vacuuming you can dish out as they are incredibly durable and last for generations.

Why

The why for me is simply stated as “Why not?” I personally love a lightweight and convenient rug. They are easier to roll or fold up and store, when I redesign my spaces, compared to a high pile behemoth. I can focus on the liveliness of my small parties, not really caring if there is a spill or a crumb. The clean up after a fabulous gathering is quicker than if I had to vacuum chips and cracker crumbs buried between piles. Oh yeah, they are also child friendly and perfect under the wheels of strollers and furniture on casters. They are called flatweaves because they are indeed FLAT! Oh, but there are a few variations that have a raised/bumpy texture to it, so make sure to choose the best option for your home and those you invite in.
