Woven in vivid hues of lavender and gold with stylized floral motifs, this garment exemplifies the grand textile traditions cultivated under regional emirs and wealthy merchant patrons. Intended as formal wear for men, these chapans were layered over other robes and fastened with a sash, often signaling social status and wealth.
The robe is fully lined with cotton and finished with a woven tape along the edges. The materials and craftsmanship demonstrate the cosmopolitan tastes of the Central Asian courts during this period.
